Version 1.1 (beta) · 23 July 2026 · Questions: privacy@montayne.ai

The short version

Who is responsible

Gabriel Miller-Phillips (sole proprietor), Munich, Germany, reachable at privacy@montayne.ai. A human reads that inbox. Our business address is being set up and will appear here before the beta opens.

What we collect

Account data. Your email address and first name, from the waitlist or your invite.

Your conversations. When you start a call, the audio of the call is recorded and transcribed. From the transcript, Montayne derives and stores: the things you told it about your life, so future conversations can build on them; your German mistakes and their corrections, so it can track what you struggle with and build practice exercises from your own sentences; session notes and scores that measure how the conversation went, including how the tutor read your mood (Montayne pays attention to how you are feeling so it can respond warmly rather than mechanically); and practice activity and results.

Feedback. Anything you submit through the feedback form, say as an in-call voice note for the team, or answer about pricing.

Technical data. Logs that keep calls working: microphone checks, connection timing, error reports, and usage costs. These are tied to your account but contain no conversation content.

Browser storage. Your login token and app state are kept in your browser's local storage. This is strictly necessary for login. We use no advertising or third-party analytics cookies, and there is nothing to "accept" in a banner.

Audio. We do not keep audio recordings on our own servers. Call recordings are stored by our voice infrastructure provider (see the provider list) and our systems access them briefly after each call to produce an accurate transcript.

Why we process it (and the legal bases)

What talking to Montayne means. Montayne is an AI system, not a human. Its conversation, corrections, and reading of your mood are produced by AI. We tell you this here and before your first call because you have a right to know, and because it is true in every session.

What we never do, and one exception we want you to know about. We do not sell personal data. We do not advertise. We ourselves never use your conversations to train AI models. Our speech-to-text provider processes your audio with model training explicitly disabled, and our AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI) do not train on this data under their API terms. Our voice-output provider's data-use setting for AI development is switched off on our account. The exception is Vapi Inc. (USA), the provider that runs the voice call and stores the call recording: Vapi confirmed to us in writing (July 2026) that at our service tier it may use call recordings, transcripts, and call logs to train and improve its AI models, and that this cannot be switched off. We tell you this plainly because it is true. What limits it: recordings are deleted from Vapi automatically after 14 days, and deleting your account deletes them immediately. If this is not acceptable to you, do not use Montayne, or write to privacy@montayne.ai and we will delete everything.

Who processes your data for us

We use a small number of specialist providers ("processors"). Each receives only what its job requires, under a data processing agreement.

How long we keep it

Your rights

You can, at any time and free of charge: see your data (access) and get a copy (portability); correct it; delete everything, with one email to privacy@montayne.ai, done within 30 days, including the recordings; object to processing based on legitimate interest and withdraw consent (which stops future processing of sensitive content but does not undo the past); and complain to a data protection authority, either your local one or the one responsible for us, the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht, Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany).

We will ask you to confirm you control the account email before acting on a request.

Age

Montayne is for adults (18+). The beta is invite-only.

Changes

We will announce material changes by email before they take effect and keep prior versions available.
